FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EVANSTON, Ill. (Sept. 4, 2024) — The Sigma Chi International Fraternity and Sigma Chi Foundation announce the lead support and recognition of two longtime senior volunteers as part of the Transformational Leader program.

In honor of their collective lifetime financial support and volunteer efforts towards Sigma Chi’s leadership and scholarship initiatives, Sigma Chi has named its Adaptive Leadership Certificate after 68th Grand Consul Michael Greenberg, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 1982, and its Horizons Session Coordinator and Guide Training program after Order of Constantine Sig Jeffery Greene, WYOMING 1975.

“I am deeply humbled by and proud of the unwavering commitment displayed by Brothers Mike Greenberg and Jeff Greene. Combined, these two men have contributed more than 80 years of service to help shape the lives of countless undergraduate men within our Fraternity,” said 73rd Grand Consul (international president) Bob Wilson, FORT HAYS 1981. “Additionally, their longtime generosity demonstrably affirms our shared belief in the transformational power of leadership education and mentorship, empowering our undergraduate brothers and alumni volunteers.”

Greenberg served as Grand Consul from 2013 to 2015 and is currently Chairman of the Sigma Chi Leadership Institute (SCLI) and on the Sigma Chi Foundation’s Board of Governors. He previously chaired the Governing Council of the North American Interfraternal Conference (NIC).

During his more than 42 years of service to Sigma Chi and the Greek-letter community, he led the development of SCLI and its efforts to become the first Greek-affiliated entity to earn formal accreditation in 2022.

He has served in a volunteer capacity within Sigma Chi’s premier leadership programs, Krach Transformational Leaders Workshop (previously Balfour Leadership Training Workshop) and Horizons Huntsman Leadership Summit, and on numerous Fraternity boards and leadership bodies, including eight years of service as a Grand Officer on the Executive Committee.

An Order of Constantine Sig and Significant Sig, Greenberg is also a member of Sigma Chi’s William Lewis Lockwood Society and Founders Circle, which recognizes lifetime and legacy giving to the Foundation.

The Greenberg Family Adaptive Leadership Certificate, funded through his transformational past and forward giving, guides brothers to become resilient and forward-thinking leaders in times of transition and crisis — a fitting echo of the career and legacy of its namesake.

More than 160 undergraduate brothers have completed the certificate, which debuted at the 2024 Krach Transformational Leaders Workshop at Bowling Green State University.

Said Greenberg: “Over the last four decades, I have had the honor of helping the Sigma Chi enterprise transform and reshape our chapters and members across North America. Since SCLI’s inception, we have witnessed many groundbreaking curricular initiatives and seen thousands of undergraduate Sigma Chi men who value leadership and the life skills that our values represent, and enable them to create and lead positive change within their chapters and communities.”

“I have long supported Sigma Chi because our Fraternity has afforded me so much. I am humbled that our Fraternity has bestowed upon me the honor of the Adaptive Leadership Certificate. This program stands out for its messaging of resilience and creating and facilitating organizational change. I’m proud to see brothers who completed this program in Bowling Green already applying these insights to their chapters.”

Greene, who served as president of the Order of Constantine during the 2021 to 2023 biennium, currently serves on the Order of Constantine Selection Committee and the Foundational Leadership Committee, and he was recently elected to the Sigma Chi Foundation’s Board of Governors.

A longtime facilitator and volunteer within Sigma Chi’s major leadership initiatives, he has been involved with the award-winning Horizons Huntsman Leadership Summit since its inception. He has also served on many Fraternity committees overseeing important initiatives such as the Officer Training Academy, Jordan Initiative, Cornerstone and Preparation for Brotherhood.

Brother Greene is also a member of Sigma Chi’s Lockwood Society and Founders Circle, recognizing his lifetime generosity and overall impact.

His recent generous endowment will directly support the training of Sigma Chi alumni to annually lead the Fraternity’s lauded Horizons Huntsman Leadership Summit, which awards the Enduring Leadership Certificate to undergraduate members from across North America.

Said Greene: “I’ve had the honor and privilege of being involved with Horizons since its inception in Sigma Chi. I clearly know its deep value to the Sigma Chi leadership experience, the many hundreds of undergraduate attendees and to the Horizons guides (facilitators).”

“One of the most important (of the many) critical success factors of Horizons is having trained alumni guides who deliver the curriculum to the undergraduates and ensure that the learning principals of immersive leadership are embedded in all of the undergraduates who attend,” he added. “The depth of training and commitment by the Horizons guides and session coordinators is extensive and essential. I’m proud to be able to fully endow this training environment for many years to come, and to ensure that Horizons will never lack for properly trained guides and session coordinators.  For me, it’s the right thing to do for Sigma Chi and Horizons.”
