The Sigma Chi International Fraternity announced the names of three finalists who are vying to become the 33rd International Sweetheart and represent the Fraternity as an example of strong character and personality, poise and grace. They were culled from a pool of 24 applicants from across the United States and Canada.
The finalists are Micky Pietkiewicz from the University of Memphis, Mary Sugden from Loyola University Chicago and Sarah Alamshaw from Southern Utah University. The 33rd International Sweetheart will be chosen through a vote of the undergraduate delegates at the 79th Grand Chapter from June 27–30, 2013, in Washington, D.C.
Pietkiewicz is a journalism and public relations major, and a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta women’s fraternity. Sugden is a broadcast journalism major with a minor in marketing, and a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma women’s fraternity. Alamshaw is a graduate student working to obtain her master’s degree in professional communication with an emphasis on public relations.
The three finalists will be introduced during Grand Chapter’s delegate orientation period on Thursday, June 27. That night, the women will speak at the convention’s welcome reception, and they will appear at the White Rose Luncheon on June 28. The winner will be announced at the Sweetheart Reception later that evening.
The winner will take over the role of current International Sweetheart Sydney Binnington, who hails from the University of Western Ontario.
