In just five weeks, Sigma Chis from across North America will gather in Skokie, Ill., to participate in the 80th meeting of the Grand Council. Taking place June 10 to 12 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Chicago – North Shore Conference Center, Grand Officers and undergraduate participants must finalize their travel arrangements with the Fraternity by May 19. In addition, they can register using the Fraternity’s website through June 1. There will be no onsite registration for the event.

In addition to considering legislation intended to clarify several statutes and Executive Committee Regulations — an outline of which is posted at sigmachi.org — Grand Council participants will take part in large- and small-group sessions discussing the new Preparation for Brotherhood pledging program, which has been in pilot stage for the last year. Sigma Chi’s leaders hope to roll out the program to all chapters this fall, beginning with a large-scale presentation at Balfour Leadership Training Workshop.

Participants will also enjoy a reception honoring the Fraternity’s 2016 Significant Sigs and Order of Constantine Sigs, and be afforded the opportunity to tour the new Chuck and Kim Watson Museum of Sigma Chi at the Fraternity’s International Headquarters in Evanston, Ill. The latter is an effort that began in 2014 and is the culmination of a nearly $800,000 renovation to the south wing of the Headquarters building in order to provide Sigma Chi with a museum space worthy of its history.

The Fraternity is also hosting a 50th-anniversary celebration of the opening of the current Headquarters building, which was dedicated at the conclusion of the Grand Council on Oct. 30, 1966. The event will include a barbecue and ribbon-cutting ceremony; in addition to Grand Council participants, all former Headquarters staff members are invited to register to attend.

Finally, the Fraternity will host a Ritual Peer training session from 8:30 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. on June 10. Participants must sign up by June 9 through the Fraternity's website.
