The Fraternity added 48 members to its rolls with the Feb. 14 installation of the chapter at DePaul University in Chicago, and expects to initiate 38 others into Sigma Chi when it installs the University of North Carolina-Charlotte chapter on March 28.
“For me and a lot of others in the chapter, the Initiation ceremony was so much more than we ever could have expected,” says Kevin Rodriguez, DEPAUL 2015, who is a former Consul of his chapter. “Leading up to it with I-week, we were just excited, and maybe a little bit impatient. I think that afterwards, we were tired, but so thrilled to have been initiated.”
Rodriguez adds that the time and effort he has spent to steer his colony toward installation is something that he will never forget.
“I learned a lot of things about leadership, especially as Consul,” he says. “It’s a lot of work, and a lot of ups and downs. Some times, things are really easy, and other times, they’re enormously difficult. But if you have a good group of guys, it’s an incredibly satisfying experience.”
However, Rodriguez saves mentioning the best part of his colonization process for last.
“Remember the legacy that you’re going to leave to brothers who are in the chapter you helped start 20 or 30 years from now,” he says.
