In late January, Sigma Chi’s Executive Committee (EC) and New Chapter Development Committee (NCDC) approved the petitions of three interest groups at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of California-Santa Barbara. Their addition to the Fraternity brings Sigma Chi’s number of colonies to eight, along with Ohio University, Bowling Green State University, Hobart College, Baylor University and Brock University.

Sigma Chi’s colonization process typically lasts 18 to 24 months, culminating with the installation of the new chapter and the initiation of worthy brothers into the Fraternity. During that time, colony members work alongside expansion officers at Sigma Chi International Fraternity Headquarters to ensure that the colony’s culture is one befitting membership in Sigma Chi, and that the members meet the Fraternity’s requisite benchmarks pertaining to academic performance, philanthropic activity, and community service.
