After a successful 2013 Balfour Leadership Training Workshop (LTW) at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., that was attended by a record number of participants, the Fraternity is proud to announce that next year’s workshop will take place in a fresh environment, both literally and figuratively. The 2014 Balfour Leadership Training Workshop will be at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., from July 31 to Aug. 2, 2014, and will feature learning techniques never before utilized by Sigma Chi’s signature undergraduate event.
The new curriculum and format that the 2014 Balfour LTW will present is being developed with an emphasis on improving all operational segments of each individual chapter. Under the new format, each small discussion group at Balfour LTW will be comprised of members from the same chapter, and will be assigned one facilitator throughout their workshop experience. This facilitator will act as a chapter mentor and guide at the workshop and for the entire following academic year. As in past years, each chapter is asked to bring a minimum of five executive officers — among them, the chapter’s Consul, Pro Consul, recruitment chairmen, Quaestor, Magister, risk managers and emerging leaders — to learn about management skills and responsibilities within their fields.
Division officers will have an opportunity to undergo officer-specific training through core presentation sessions. The 2014 Balfour LTW can accommodate more than five attendees per chapter, so we encourage all chapters to send as many participants as they can. The goals of this new format are to assist chapters in identifying areas of operational improvement, provide a high-quality learning experience that benefits individual officers in a team environment, and create a lasting mentor relationship with the vast network of Sigma Chi alumni facilitators.
Since its inception in 1947, Balfour LTW has served as Sigma Chi’s annual summer leadership conference for undergraduate chapters across North America. Today, it is among the premier Greek-letter leadership conferences in the world. The 2014 workshop will mark a transition toward a new and improved era of Sigma Chi leadership conferences. With upcoming changes in 2014, we anticipate the workshop’s continued growth, and we look forward to a new year and improving experiences for our undergraduate brothers at the Ball State campus.
