The Sigma Chi Fraternity on Saturday reinstalled its Delta Sigma chapter at the University of Rhode Island, bringing an active Fraternity chapter back to the campus for the first time in 15 years. The chapter was originally installed in 1949, and has been inactive since 1996.
The chapter, previously known as the Fraternity's Sigma Chi Delta colony, was reorganized in 2008 with a group of 17 members. At its Dec. 3, 2011, installation, the chapter initiated 37 men into Sigma Chi's ranks.
“Sigma Chi Delta has come a long way since the end of last semester,” writes Robert Tobey, RHODE ISLAND 2013, in the group's formal petition to become an active undergraduate chapter. Calling the colony's efforts at times ‘anemic,' he goes on to say that “the years [that] Sigma Chi Delta struggled [have] strengthened our resolve … to be a strong chapter [that is] worthy of the name Sigma Chi.”
The Rhode Island chapter becomes the seventh undergraduate Sigma Chi organization in the Connecticut/Rhode Island area. For more information, contact Chapter Advisor Carl Graveline, CONNECTICUT 1981, via email atcarlgraveline@yahoo.com.
