Sigma Chi added its 240th active chapter Oct. 22 when it installed the Lambda Mu chapter, formerly the Sigma Chi Xi colony, at Valdosta State University. The chapter, which petitioned to become a Fraternity colony in August 2008, contributed 38 men to the Fraternity's rolls at its installation.”In our experience as a colony we have gone through trials and tribulations, but have always proven to overcome them,” writes Consul Tim Fergus, VALDOSTA STATE 2012, in the then-colony's petition to become an active chapter. “[W]ith great guidance and a solid core group of leaders we showed [how] to overcome the obstacles in our way.”The Valdosta chapter is the fifth to be installed this year by Headquarters: Florida International University, University of Ottawa and Rochester Institute of Technology gained chapters earlier this year, in addition to the reactivation of the chapter at the University of Chicago. Additionally, a sixth installation is tentatively planned in December for the colony at the University of Rhode Island, pending a vote of approval by the Fraternity's active chapters.
