Recognizing Sigma Chi alumni who have achieved high levels of professional success, the Fraternity has announced the recipients of its 2019 Significant Sig Award.

From the best-selling author behind the Harry Bosch series to U.S. Congressional representatives, the 139 recipients cast a wide net of achievement in a variety of fields.

Members of the 2019 class may choose to receive their honor during the 82nd Grand Chapter at the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah, in June or at a local ceremony.

Awarded annually since 1935, the Fraternity has honored more than 1,800 Sigma Chis with the Significant Sig Award. Previous winners include such notable Sigs as late-night talk show host David Letterman, BALL STATE 1969; country music artist Luke Bryan, GEORGIA SOUTHERN 1999; and Academy Award winning actor and director Warren Beatty, NORTHWESTERN 1959.

The 2019 class is headlined by five members of the United States Congress, including freshman representatives Kelly Armstrong, NORTH DAKOTA 2000, of North Dakota; Tim Burchett, TENNESSEE-KNOXVILLE 1985, of Tennessee’s second district; and Dean Phillips, BROWN 1991, of Minnesota’s third district. North Carolina’s 11th district representative Mark Meadows, SOUTH FLORIDA 1983, and Garrett Graves, ALABAMA and LOUISIANA STATE 1994, of Louisiana’s sixth district also receive the award.

In the professional football world, Chicago Bears General Manager Ryan Pace, EASTERN ILLINOIS 1999, and Los Angeles Chargers President of Football Operations John Spanos, WAKE FOREST 2002, join best-selling author Michael Connelly, FLORIDA 1979, who penned noted titles such as The Lincoln Lawyer and several crime fiction series featuring his bestselling character, Harry Bosch.

Awardees also represent the military, medical, legal and business fields, including 69th Grand Consul Michael Ursillo, BROWN 1978, and former Huntsman Cancer Foundation President and CEO David Huntsman, UTAH 1992.

Retired Air Forice Tech. Sgt. Mark Dunning, HANOVER 1983, who served as a system intelligence analyst for the Air Force and the Department of Defense says, “It means the world to me. I never thought in a million years I would be a Significant Sig!”
