The Sigma Chi International Fraternity will host its 81st Grand Chapter from June 22 to 25, 2017, at the Omni Providence Hotel in Providence, R.I., which is located near the hometown of 69th Grand Consul, or international president, Michael Ursillo, BROWN 1978. It is tradition that the Grand Consul selects the site of the Grand Chapter conference at which he will end his term in office. At the event, delegates from the Fraternity’s undergraduate and alumni chapters will join Ursillo and the past Grand Consuls in electing new Grand Officers and considering legislation that will affect Sigma Chi’s governance.
The Fraternity will also recognize brothers for their professional achievements and Sigma Chi volunteerism, typically while in the company of their family members.
Ursillo looks forward to welcoming conference attendees to the Rhode Island city.
“Providence is a small miracle in southern New England, featuring phenomenal restaurants serving world-class cuisine, breathtaking historic architecture, a vibrant arts scene and endless family-friendly activities,” says Ursillo. “Next year’s Grand Chapter is being held in a very family-friendly environment, and we’re looking forward to a very fabulous time for all.”
In particular, Ursillo hopes that Grand Chapter attendees will explore the city’s architecture and cuisine, the latter of which he refers to as world-class.
“Some of the most amazing restaurants in New England are in the Federal Hill community, and have been rated even higher than similar restaurants in Boston,” says Ursillo. In addition, he mentions that visitors can tour University Hall at Brown University, where Gen. George Washington stationed his troops during the Revolutionary War, and the impressive mansions located in nearby Newport, R.I.
