The Sigma Chi International Fraternity hosted its biennial Grand Council meeting in Cleveland last weekend, marking the 100th anniversary of the first such meeting of the Fraternity’s legislative body.
The event was highlighted by the Grand Council’s adoption of a set of revisions to the Ritualistic Statutes, which are the laws that govern how the Ritual is presented at Initiations, exemplifications and other similar ceremonies. Nothing in the Ritual was altered, as that is a power reserved for the undergraduate chapters at Grand Chapter; rather, the proposed revisions to the statutes reflected a desire on the part of the Ritual Committee to modernize the language in the statutes, as they had not been updated since the 1980s.
Following the close of the business sessions on Saturday, Dayne Warshofsky, MARYLAND 2013, and Zach Hartley, BALL STATE 2013, were elected to one-year terms as undergraduate representatives to the General Fraternity’s Executive Committee.
The traditional awards banquet took place later that night and featured seven of the 50 recipients of the Significant Sig Award as well as 13 of the 16 inductees into the Order of Constantine. Other honorees at the banquet were winners of the Seven Lights Alumni Award. Also recognized at the banquet were the recipients of the Fraternity’s awards for most outstanding chapter advisors, best house corporation officers, best alumni chapter officers, and most exemplary alumni chapter community service effort.
Grand Consul Dennis Santoli, CASE WESTERN 1967, also announced that the following year’s Grand Chapter will be from June 27-30 in the nation’s capitol at the Renaissance Washington, D.C., Downtown Hotel.
