The Fraternity Recolonizes at San Diego State University

Sigma Chi wants to make a name for itself on the campus of San Diego State University, and recolonizing there is a step in the right direction.
On Oct. 12, 2017, Des Robinson, TARLETON STATE 2015, the Fraternity’s director of expansion, notified the former interest group that its Declaration of Intent to become a colony had been unanimously approved by the Executive Committee.
“Everyone was excited that we’ve become an official colony,” says Pro Consul Dylan Bodkin, 2019, noting that he and those in the group have worked hard over the past months to get to this point.
He says that people are starting to notice the colony on campus, which has 18 members and is one of seven Sigma Chi colonies across North America.
Bodkin, a Sigma Chi Foundation Military Service Scholarship Award recipient, said he missed being part of a brotherhood following his time in the U.S. Marine Corps. Now, Sigma Chi is filling his need for that bond that he has missed.
Bodkin adds that alumni have also supported the interest group as it became a colony.
“The [Southern California province] Grand Praetor Asher Kalef, [CAL STATE-SAN BERNADINO 2011,] drives down twice a month to check on us,” Bodkin says. “It means a lot to have that support right off the bat because it shows we’re doing something right.”
The chapter was originally installed on Jan. 8, 1949, and the International Fraternity suspended it on May 8, 2013.
