Sigma Chi approved its ninth colony last week, when the Executive Committee voted Oct. 14 to approve the petition of the Sigma Chi Nu interest group at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn. The colony presently numbers 18 members, including Josh Allen, AUSTIN PEAY 2012, who was previously initiated into the Fraternity.
“Cumberland University is one of the leading educational institutions in the world, with a longstanding reputation of attracting those who are devoted to academic achievement and athletic excellence,” writes the colony in its petition to the Executive Committee. “Re-chartering the Nu chapter of Sigma Chi will not only add prestige to Cumberland University, but also add to the excellence of Sigma Chi itself.”
Sigma Chi previously installed its Nu chapter at Cumberland University in 1872; by 1880, the chapter was inactive, having initiated only 49 men. If the Sigma Chi Nu colony is successfully installed as the reactivated Nu chapter, it will be the first time in more than 130 years for a Sigma Chi chapter to be present on the university's campus.
