The Sigma Chi International Fraternity’s New Chapter Development Committee approved on June 7 the applications of two student groups to become officially recognized colonies of the Fraternity. The groups are at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and California State University San Marcos.
In their petition to be recognized as a colony, the men of the Cal. State-San Marcos colony wrote, “The interest group is comprised of dedicated men who want to better themselves, better their campus, and better their community. … The group has made conscious efforts to embody the true meaning of what it means to be a Sigma Chi.” Likewise, members of the North Carolina-Charlotte colony said, “The journey ahead will require nothing less than the complete devotion of all members toward the tasks set before us, yet we have unwavering faith in the potential of this group to become an official chapter of Sigma Chi.”
Sigma Chi’s other recognized colonies are at Bentley University, in Waltham, Mass.; California State University-Long Beach; Cumberland University, in Lebanon, Tenn.; the University of Louisiana at Lafayette; Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo.; the University of West Georgia in Douglasville, Ga.; and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
