It’s almost time to go to Washington, D.C., Sigma Chi.
The Fraternity’s 79th Grand Chapter will be June 27-30, 2013, in the US Capitol, and the time to register is now in order for members to take advantage of a unique opportunity available to them.
The first 250 Grand Chapter full-package registrants will be able to participate in a special lunch that will be hosted on Capitol Hill. All Sigma Chi US Congress members were invited to attend and mingle at this special luncheon. The Capitol Hill Luncheon is optional for the first 250 full package registrants and if participants do not want to partake in the festivities, they may opt out of the Capitol Hill Luncheon and choose the on-site lunch at the hotel.
Registration will be available by navigating to sigmachi.org/grandchapter beginning on Friday, Feb. 8. Hotel sleeping room reservations at the special Sigma Chi conference rate can be booked through this registration page.
Also available on the 79th Grand Chapter website will be the application to become a Grand Chapter delegate. Members can access the delegate form here. The deadline to apply to become a Grand Chapter delegate is May 1, 2013. Anyone with questions can contact Grand Chapter delegate liaison Reece Schenkenfelder, WESTERN KENTUCKY 2010, at (847) 869-3655, ext. 227, or reece.schenkenfelder@sigmachi.org .
Undergraduate chapters must choose their delegates as soon as possible. One delegate per chapter is required. The Grand Chapter registration fee is paid for all confirmed UG delegates. This includes entrance to all 79th Grand Chapter official off-site events and all official meal functions. All undergraduate delegates are responsible for the cost of their air/car transportation and the hotel sleeping rooms. Each attending chapter will be given a stipend at the conclusion of the last business session.
Another notable event that the Fraternity has planned for the weekend is a White Rose Ceremony planned for Sunday, June 30, in honor of Founder Benjamin Piatt Runkle, MIAMI (OHIO) 1857, at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. The Fraternity expects a bus to leave Washington, D.C., at 9 a.m. for the ceremony and return to the hotel by 10:30 a.m.
