New Colony Approved at Bowling Green State University

When Steve Santell, BOWLING GREEN STATE 2016, pledged Sigma Chi, he says that the decision was one that came easily to him.
“Starting something new really interested me, as opposed to joining an already established organization,” he says. “Once I learned just how much the Fraternity means to its members of all ages, there was no question that I wanted to be a part of it.”
Santell is now the Consul of the colony at Bowling Green State University that the Executive Committee approved on Dec. 4, 2014, and hopes to lead its members toward installation in the near future. Rather than being daunted by the task of creating what he hopes will eventually become a new chapter, he sees it as a test of his and his brothers’ work ethics.
“The biggest challenge [of creating a colony] is starting from scratch. Other fraternities have a foundation and have people to train their new members,” he says. “We have some excellent alumni support, but it’s been a growing and learning process. Going in with no one above you to show you the ropes is an enormous challenge.
“We understand that to be successful,” Santell adds, “we need to put in 110 percent of our effort, 100 percent of the time.”
