The Sigma Chi International Fraternity announced on April 14 the names of three finalists who are vying to become the 2021 to 2023 International Sweetheart of Sigma Chi and represent the Fraternity as an example of strong character, poise and grace. They were chosen from a pool of 18 applicants from the United States and Canada.

            The finalists are Jordan Garrett of Oklahoma State University, Shelby Mecklenborg of the University of Cincinnati and Sarah Simmons of Utah State University. The 2021 to 2023 International Sweetheart will be chosen in June through a vote of undergraduate delegates at the 83rd Grand Chapter at the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona.

            Garrett is a sophomore majoring in human development and family sciences with a focus in child and family services. She holds a 3.89 GPA and is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, which is among the top collegiate leadership honor societies in the United States. She also is a member of the Pi Beta Phi women’s fraternity chapter at Oklahoma State University.

            Mecklenborg is a sophomore in the Linder School of Business at the University of Cincinnati who is majoring in marketing. She holds a 3.8 GPA and is a member of the Linder Honors-PLUS program. She is special events director for University of Cincinnati’s Dance Marathon event and worked as a management consulting analyst for AMEND Consulting in Cincinnati during the fall 2020 academic term. She also is president of the Kappa Kappa Gamma women’s fraternity chapter at the University of Cincinnati.

            Simmons is a junior who is double majoring in communications studies and political science. She is a peer mentor for incoming first-year students at Utah State University and is president of Utah State University National Panhellenic Council. Utah State University named her its Sorority Woman of the Year for the 2020-2021 academic year. She also is a member of the Order of Omega honor society and Alpha Chi Omega women’s fraternity chapters at Utah State.

            The three finalists will be introduced during the 83rd Grand Chapter’s delegate orientation session on June 24. The 2021 to 2023 International Sweetheart will be announced during a reception on June 26.
