Undergraduate and alumni delegates voted Mike Ursillo, BROWN 1978, to become Sigma Chi’s 69th Grand Consul, or international president, at the Fraternity’s June 25 to 27 Grand Chapter convention at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina. Ursillo previously served as Grand Pro Consul alongside his predecessor, 68th Grand Consul Mike Greenberg, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 1982, from 2013 to 2015, and as president of the Order of Constantine from 2011 to 2013.
“During my term, I will work tirelessly to ensure that we instill in every Sigma Chi the value system which has guided us throughout our history,” said Ursillo in a speech Saturday following his installation as Grand Consul. “I am proud of the work Sigma Chi has accomplished to change the dynamics and reputation of the entire fraternal system through proactive education and strong policy enforcement, and I am ready to carry on that direction.”
Ursillo stressed that his term will be one in which he continues the work begun by his predecessors: To root out hazing from every Sigma Chi chapter, and to banish it completely from the Fraternity.
“The Greek[-letter] system has been under attack in recent years, and many of you have seen our interfraternal shortcomings aired in a very public way. We stand at the precipice of a crucible moment,” said Ursillo. “Consequently, our theme for the next biennium is ‘Find it here. Find it now.' We will find our Ritual-based values system here in Sigma Chi. We must find it now in order to ensure our integrity and future vitality.”
