Utah Sigs Planning To Hit Milestone Mark

The Sigs at the University of Utah are racing to a milestone on behalf of the General Fraternity, while also helping to raise cancer awareness.
The chapter is making a push for donations to support the Huntsman Cancer Institute by donating to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation (HCF) — which is the fundraising arm of the institute — so it can be the chapter to elevate Sigma Chi’s all-time donation total to HCF to more than $1 million.
“We’re totally motivated [to reach this milestone for the Fraternity],” says Consul Peter Walker, 2013. “It’s something that we’ve been working hard at already. We have already reached $4,525 in donations and we think we will have no problems at reaching our goal [to surpass the milestone].”
The chapter, with input from Lori Kun, who is the director of development for HCF, figures to need around $20,000 in donations to break the $1 million mark. In order to do so, the Utah Sigs put together a spring version of their Derby Days philanthropic event — called Sigs in the Spring.
In this philanthropic event — which is scheduled for April 9–13 — the chapter is going to host competitions among the campus sororities and women’s fraternities to raise money for HCF. The chapter is also reaching out to alumni, local businesses and members of the community for donations to add to its total.
“The whole process is going well,” Walker said of the drive for donations. “I’d say that [possibly passing the $1 million mark] is one of the coolest opportunities that our chapter has ever had. It’s a huge honor to be representing the General Fraternity. We are very excited, very humbled and very honored to have this opportunity.”
