The Fraternity and Sorority Political Action Committee (FSPAC) will make its annual visit to Capitol Hill the week of April 24 to push the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act (CHIA). The bill is designed to give alumni the option of donating tax-deductible gifts to Greek-letter house corporations the same way they can for campus residence halls, according to the North-American Interfraternity Conference’s website, nicindy.org. This year, chairman of the Committee on Governmental Affairs for the Sigma Chi International Fraternity is Order of Constantine Sig P.J. Stephens, WASHINGTON (ST. LOUIS) 1971. He will join Jake Kramer, PRINCETON 2017; Rajiv Samagond, PURDUE 2016; Vladimir Malugin, UTAH 2015; Marvin Flores, CAL. STATE-LONG BEACH 2017; and six alumni to show their support of the bill.
“It’s as much a timing issue as anything else. For the first time since 1986, a tax reform measure will come out of Congress and we want it to be in the 115th Congress this year. We want to be part of it,” said Stephens. “If we wait, or if our efforts are less than robust, we run the risk that we may have to wait another 10 to 15 years for the opportunity to enact CHIA into law.”
