Sigma Chi International Fraternity ended the Krach Transformational Leaders Workshop held July 27 to 31 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, by recognizing the success and improvements among undergraduate chapters across the United States and Canada.
The highest honor, the 2021 J. Dwight Peterson Significant Chapter Award, was presented to 93 groups at colleges and universities in North America.
Established in 1964, the Peterson Award recognizes chapters that achieve excellence in all operations, including academics, philanthropy, recruitment and Ritual performance.
Although the Fraternity usually presents two levels of the Peterson Award based on a chapter’s application score, due to the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on chapter operations, only one level of the Peterson Award was given this year. An expanded temporary grading process was created, and there was a new section of the Annual Report dedicated toward how chapters responded to the challenges of the pandemic, which formed the basis of this year’s awards.
Other chapters received additional awards. The Tennessee Tech chapter received the Daniel William Cooper Award that honors the undergraduate chapter with the most outstanding scholastic achievement program and comes with a $5,000 scholarship. First runner-up is the Louisville chapter with a $3,000 scholarship, and second runner-up is the Ripon chapter with a $2,000 scholarship. The Mississippi State and Samford chapters were honorable mentions and received the Legion of Honor Award.
