The sites below were nominated for historic site designation under the new “Protocols for Recognition of Monuments and Memorials of the Sigma Chi International Fraternity,” approved by the Monuments and Memorials Commission and enacted by Sigma Chi’s Executive Committee on June 13, 2020.
This page contains Level Three: Regional sites. Level Three designates a location not qualified for a higher level but is of interest to the Fraternity because of its regional or local importance to an undergraduate or alumni chapter, or a brother/family.
Location: Exact location unknown, but Spring Park in Tuscumbia, Alabama has long been considered extremely close to the actual meeting site.
Site nominated August 28, 2020 by Joseph Nichols, NORTH ALABAMA 1992 and the Northern Alabama Alumni Chapter.
Site granted Level Three (Conditional) status on November 26, 2020.
Significance: It represents a significantly uniting event in our history and complements the Constantine Chapter Memorial Monument in Lovejoy, Georgia.
Site will be commemorated by a proposed bronzed upright marker inscribed similarly to the following: “Hereabouts on New Year’s Day 1865, the surviving members of the Constantine Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity held their last meeting.”
Site Active: To be determined.
