83rd Grand Chapter Health and safety plan

The 83rd Grand Chapter will be held in a hybrid capacity from June 24 to 27, 2021, at the Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Anyone who is willing to follow the Fraternity’s health and safety plan* and is comfortable attending in person is welcome to do so. This includes spouses, partners and family members. All attendees must follow the health and safety plan, as it will be strictly enforced.

Attendees also have the option to participate in the event virtually using the Hopin meeting platform. Virtual participants will have access to orientation, all business sessions, the Order of Constantine induction lunch and Celebration of Sigma Chi banquet. Voting delegates may also participate virtually. Anyone who is either not comfortable attending in person or unwilling to follow the health and safety plan is encouraged to participate in a virtual capacity.

The Fraternity is aware of the current complexities and difficulties involving travel between the United States and Canada, and how this may affect our Canadian brothers’ ability to attend the event if the situation does not materially improve. We will continue to monitor this situation as the event draws closer and respond accordingly.

Health and Safety Plan* for In-Person Attendees

  • All in-person attendees are required to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 prior to their arrival in Scottsdale, Arizona. Please upload a photo of your vaccination card here.
    • Any person interested in attending Grand Chapter who has not been fully vaccinated may request an exemption from the Grand Consul. The Grand Consul will use his best judgment in evaluating exemption requests. Typical reasons for requesting an exemption include: inability to receive vaccination due to medical or religious reasons, and inability to access the vaccine. The Grand Consul is encouraged to provide an exemption to any person who has received the first of two doses of the vaccine, but is unable to receive the second dose before Grand Chapter. All individuals who receive an exemption are required to produce a negative COVID-19 test in order to attend. You can submit your request for an exemption by clicking here.
  • The Fraternity will follow the local, state and federal guidelines regarding mask wearing. Wearing of masks will be optional for fully vaccinated attendees. Attendees who have been granted an exemption by the Grand Consul from providing proof of vaccination and vaccinated attendees who are more comfortable wearing a mask are encouraged to continue wearing a mask. Masks will be made available for all attendees who request one.
  • Social distancing requirements will be enforced.
  • All Grand Officers and staff members will be placed in their own sleeping rooms. Delegates and guests are likewise strongly encouraged to book their own sleeping rooms.
  • Business sessions and celebration events will follow social distancing parameters for seating arrangements.
  • All attendees must execute a Fraternity liability waiver as part of the registration process.
  • All attendees are required to participate in the Fraternity’s third-party contact tracing software.
  • All attendees will be required to self-screen for symptoms daily, attest with the Fraternity that they have done so and will have their temperature taken at all entry points.
  • The Westin Kierland Resort staff will implement additional health and safety measures regarding sanitization and cleanliness according to local and Arizona state requirements.

*The Sigma Chi International Fraternity is monitoring closely the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccine distribution progress in North America and the global public health situation. We will modify the event as necessary based on guidance from local public health officials and members of Sigma Chi’s COVID-19 task force. The safety of our members and guests is and will remain our top priority.
