The Value of Horizons

Each year, Sigma Chi International Fraternity Headquarters selects nearly 200 freshmen and sophomores to take part in the Horizons leadership development program. Geared toward cultivating leadership traits in its participants, Horizons takes place over a six-day retreat to the mountains of Snowbird, Utah, where Sigs learn a variety of problem-solving skills to bring back to their home chapters.
“Horizons offers undergraduates the next step in understanding who they are,” says Greg Golden, NEW MEXICO 2011, who was recently trained as a Horizons guide. “A college student goes through so many experiences and changes, but Horizons is an opportunity to explore what kind of person you want to be.”

Golden says that even those undergraduates with busy summer schedules should make time for the program.
“What seems like a one-week sacrifice now could turn into a life-changing opportunity,” he says. “There’s no substitute for the experience to open your eyes to a whole new way of living your life. It’s a chance to learn who you are, and who you want to become.”
