The Fraternity welcomed its 240th chapter to its roll Saturday, when the Lambda Omicron Chapter at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale was installed in Carbondale, Ill.
The Fraternity initiated its new members into the chapter, led by Directors of Expansion Nick Conway, CAL. STATE-FRESNO 2010, and Matt Pagan, NORTH FLORIDA 2010, with Expansion Coordinator Kyle Marscellas, CALIFORNIA-IRVINE 2011, helping out with I-week activities.
Sixty-seventh Grand Consul and Order of Constantine Sig Dennis Santoli, CASE WESTERN 1967, signed the charter, while Sigma Chi Executive Director/President and Order of Constantine Sig Michael H. Dunn, UTAH STATE 1976; Director of Accountability and Order of Constantine Sig William Scott, ARIZONA 1980; Online Specialist James Jones, NORTH FLORIDA 2009, and Joe Wolf, NORTHWESTERN 1974; attended the installation on behalf of Sigma Chi International Headquarters.
Shawn Betar, SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (CARBONDALE) 2012, is now a graduate student at the university. Working through the colony process was an arduous but fulfilling task. “It was definitely a long 2½-year process, but it was worth it,” says Betar. “You could see the guys' faces; there were tears and smiles all around. It was a culmination of all our work. We were just really proud of ourselves.”
The chapter must immediately shift its focus to the recruitment process, which was ongoing during I-week. Currently, the chapter has handed out 12 bids with more bids to be distributed, and accepted bids should be returned to the chapter this week, Betar says.
