A Sigma Chi tradition in Canada, the 10th-annual Sigma Chi Hockey Tournament, will take place at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario, on Jan. 19.
Over 120 Sigs comprising six all-Sigma Chi teams will be vying for the Connable Cup and the trophies of Most Valuable Player and Most Sportsmanlike Player. The Connable Cup is named for Ralph Connable, ALBION 1890, who is considered to be the person responsible for bringing the Fraternity to Canada.
As of Jan. 9, undergraduate and alumni participants representing 12 chapters are registered to play in the event.
Current International Sweetheart Allie Hagemeyer and 2011 to 2013 International Sweetheart Sydney Binnington will be on hand to drop the puck and meet participants and spectators, while a film crew representing International Headquarters will be there to produce an upcoming web documentary series.
Interested undergraduates may register for $25 (CA), with alumni players slated at $125. Non-players and spectators may attend the event, which begins at 9 a.m. ET and closes at 6 p.m., at a cost of $30 per person. American brothers and spectators receive a 25-percent discount on costs based on the exchange rate.
Registration for the event closes on Jan. 14.
