The Sigma Chi International Fraternity’s board of directors, known as the Executive Committee (EC), voted Nov. 18 to suspend all operations of its chapter at Auburn University. The EC cited repeated policy violations on the part of the chapter’s members during the past few years as the catalyst for its decision.
In a statement, Michael Greenberg, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 1982, Sigma Chi’s Grand Consul, or international president, said that the committee’s decision was to ensure that all of the Fraternity’s undergraduate chapters live up to the organization’s expectations.
“Our belief in the concept of justice requires us to hold each other accountable for failure to live up to our obligation,” he said. “The actions of the members of the chapter made this a necessary decision for the good of Sigma Chi.”
Sigma Chi remains one of the largest collegiate fraternities, with 241 active undergraduate chapters and more than 240,000 living alumni members.
