Significant Sig Jon Huntsman, PENNSYLVANIA 1959, Pledges $5 Million

Generous gift will continue Horizons leadership development program

Significant Sig Jon Huntsman, PENNSYLVANIA 1959, has pledged $5 million to continue four annual sessions of the Sigma Chi International Fraternity’s Horizons leadership development program for the next 10 years. The program, which will soon enter its 15thyear, immerses undergraduates in six days of experiential learning in Utah and includes a trip to Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) in Salt Lake City, where students see how the center treats those with cancer.

Since 2005, Sigma Chis have donated more than $2.3 million to help HCI conduct cancer research. The Fraternity has committed to support HCI and its fundraising arm, the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, as its official philanthropy for the next decade. The Huntsman Cancer Foundation is led by president and CEO David Huntsman, UTAH 1992.

“We are fortunate to have the support of the Huntsman family to help us continue providing world-class leadership training to our undergraduates,” says 68th Grand Consul, or international president, Mike Greenberg, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 1982. “Likewise, we are thankful for the positive influence Jon Huntsman has on all of our young brothers, who see how he treats cancer patients with compassion and how passionate he is about finding a cure for this horrible disease. We are proud to call the Huntsmans our brothers and are committed to supporting their efforts.”

Significant Sig Greg Harbaugh, PURDUE 1978, who is CEO and president of the Sigma Chi Foundation, adds, “This set of commitments forms a strong partnership that will result in the development of thousands of values-based leaders, as well as groundbreaking research and treatment aimed at eradicating cancer. We are grateful to the Huntsman family for their generosity and enduring support."
